    RIKA at The Beaumont
    FEBRUARY 13th - MARCH 31st

    RIKA: This collection focuses on the Coast of the Pacific Northwest and features highly stylized Oceanscapes that are boldly brushed & ornately detailed. Rika uses dark, broad sweeping lines to express the ocean's power and movement which are contrasted by the bright gold leaf that adorns the surfaces. He relies on the natural tendencies of watercolors to create the moody stormy skies most often seen in these West Coast seas.

    To complete and compliment these pieces, Rika has collaborated with furniture designer and frame worker Tyler J. Harris of Happy Valley Wood. Tyler has hand crafted one-of-a-kind cedar wood frames from local B.C reclaimed cedar driftwood.

    All mediums and material are organic and respectful of the environment.

    ECO CHIC E-Meal: Red Pepper Winter Soup

    When temperatures drop, warm up from the inside out with a delicious, healthy bowl of home-made soup!  My Red Pepper Winter Soup is oh-so-simple to make and fills you up with yummy goodness!

    Ingredients

    • 4 organic garlic cloves, chopped
    • 2 organic cooking onions, chopped
    • 2 tbsps olive oil
    • 4 organic red peppers, chopped
    • 1 can organic crushed tomatoes
    • 1 can organic chick peas (or 1 1/2 cups of dried chick peas, soaked and boiled)
    • 2 bunches of fresh oregano
    • 3 cups organic vegetable stock (I make my own stock but always have a jar or two of Better Than Bouillon Organic Vegetable Base on hand when I'm feeling lazy)

    Preparation

    Saute garlic cloves and onions in olive oil until soft. Drain chick peas and combine remainder of ingredients  in the pot. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes.  Blend preferrably with a hand mixer and serve hot.

    Makes 4 generous bowls.
